Baby Has RSV

Katie Boo was sneezing and coughing a lot early last week. We took her to the pediatrician who said that she was developing bronchitis...and to watch her closely. By the next day, she was wheezing and not eating well. When we called the pediatrician's office to get her back in...they were closed due to the snow. So, when she continued to have trouble breathing we took her in to Children's Hospital's Emergency room.

They admitted her to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon on oxygen and an iv. They tested her and determined that she had the RSV virus. The scary thing about this lower respiratory virus is that the poor baby expends so much energy trying to get enough oxygen that they can get so tired out that they stop breathing all together.

Katie and I stayed in the hospital for three days. She is much better now, thanks to the supportive care that she received...but it was a scary experience...poor little baby.

Today on the way to Montessori School Jack was excitedly talking about building a snowman. (He has been waiting all season for enough snow to fall so that we could build a snowman.) We were talking about the big storm headed our way....and that we were expected to get 4+ inches of snow tonight and into tomorrow. I told him that we may be able to build a snowman tomorrow if we get that much snow.

He thought about that and said, "Mommy, will we be able to build a really really big snowman then?"

"Yes, if we get that much snow," I replied.

Jack was then silent for quite a while as we drove on. Then he said, "Maybe if I build a snowman all of the way up to heaven, the cats can walk back down to us."

(Three of our cats passed away last year and Jack always thinks about them and we talk about them being in heaven.)

He is such a sweet and sensitive little boy. I love him so much.

Jack at Four.

Jack had his four-year-old pediatrician Appointment today. He was such a good little guy. He can count to 100 and can read!!!! He actually can read. (He sounds words out every day without help...he has basically taught himself once we helped him with the sounds that all of the letters make.) At the doctor's office, he looked out the door and said, "ehhhhhh exxxxx iiii tttttt....eeexxiiit....EXIT....Mommy, there is the exit." He is amazing!

He weighed in at 43lbs.(85%) and was 43" tall (95%).

I am amazed at how smart he is! He still is not great with fine or gross motor skills. (he is a little uncoordinated like I was as a child.....but he is soooo smart! (and he has to be the most photogenic child I have ever seen. My sweet and smart and cute boy....my first baby....I love you so!

Baby Is Two Months Old.

I can't believe that little Katie Boo is two months old today! She had her two month appointment and was 23" long (80%) and was 12 lbs (95%). She got 4 shots and cried and cried. It was horrible! I don't remember Jack EVER crying like that when he got his shots!

This little girl is so good natured. She almost never cries. She will sit by herself, looking around without asking anyone for anything..without so much as a whine or cry. She also hardly nurses. She will nurse on one side for maybe 10 minutes...and then she is done. (Jack would never stop until he feel asleep and then he had to be pried off.)

She is such a sweet little thing. She smiles when she sees me. She smiles when she sees her brother or Daddy. She is just such a gentle soul. She is starting to try to talk to me. This morning she was looking right at me and she started making sounds like words....and she was very serious about it. I am certain she was trying to communicate. We need to start sign language with her soon....as I think she is going to want to communicate very soon!

All of her hair fell out...so she is very bald right now and her eyes are very dark. It looks like she may end up with blond hair and brown eyes. She is going to be very pretty. She has delicate features...a beautiful mouth and nose and long eye lashes.

Yesterday was my first day back to work and I miss my baby. There was so much less pomp and circumstance about going back to work this time. I feel so bad for our little Katie Boo as there is so much less attention given to every milestone in her little life. I love her so much....I hope she always will know that. I love you little Boo...
