I asked Jack's preschool teachers at the start of the year if they could make sure that he focuses on reading and writing this year (he is in a Montesorri school) as he began phonically reading over the summer.
They were kind enough to recognize his abilities and have placed him in with the kindergarten class (there are 4-5 kindergarteners in Jack's class) for reading and writing session.
On Monday, when I picked Jack up from school, his teacher, Mrs. Cloud, who works with him on reading and writing said that he had just moved up to level 3 in reading and that she thought that he could probalby read at a higher level than that right now but that they are required to go through the levels step-by-step. The itneresting thing is, the kindergarteners in Jack's class are all still reading at Level 2.
I am amazed at our little boy...and so proud of him. He just started reading on his own...with almost no help from us at all....and now he just reads everything he can find. He picked up his cousin's first grade reading book....and read the whole thing with no problem. My little genius.

Special Things About Baby Mary Katherine.
Katie is 10 months old now. Wow....I had a sad feeling rush over me last night when I walked through the store and saw the baby cloths and while looking at some noticed that they only went up to 9 months. I can no longer shop in the baby section for Katie Boo. My stomach went into my throat as I realized that I my little infant really really isn't a little baby any longer. How did that happen? How did I let the sweet little thing grow away from me like that without even realizing it. So....before I forget some of her sweet baby ways, I wanted to get them all down in writing so that can always remember them and the way that she is/was as a baby. Our sweet little Boo.
Katie loves to grab and/or pinch when she is nursing. While she doesn't LOVE to nurse all of the time like Jack did....when she is really having a good session, she grabs my arm and squeezes is again and again like she is squeezing a stress ball. Other times she takes her thinly little finger nails, digs them into the back of my upper arm and pinches and pinches. She is almost in a trance when she does this so I try not to disturb her....but it HURTS!
I love the way her little mouth goes flat across the top when she is nursing....
She loves to climb up on me while we are laying in bed and make raspberries on any exposed part of my body. When she makes a good raspberry like that she will giggle and look at me (and Jack if he is around) to see if she made us laugh. She is so cute...as she so want to make other people laugh.
She has little spaces between her teeth that make her smile so endearing when she wrinkles up her nose and laughs at something.
She loves animals and stuffed animals and will giggle and smile when she sees a live animal in person or on television or when she sees a stuffed animal. I have seen her hugging stuffed animals before. And she just loves Mickey Mouse...even large characters (like on the Disney Cruise) do not scare her...she reaches out to them and wants to go to them.
She isn't talking much...but does say Dada and Da...for Daddy...and she can say Mama too...but doesn't say it as much.
She is walking everywhere like a pro. Even going right up steps without hesitating...and into tunnels, etc. She is really fearless when it comes to physical ability.
She is constantly moving and rolling, crawling around on the bed...or walking. She never stops. She puts EVERYTHING into her little mouth...and she wants to be held ALL OF THE TIME. She will cry if you put her down about 90% of the time. And when she is upset....she folds herself completely in half on the floor with her head pressed to the floor between her legs and cries and cries.
She never ate baby food....so she is a pro at eating everything that we eat. She likes most everything except oatmeal. Not sure why she dislikes that? She LOVES grapes and most fruits too. As I was leaving after lunch today, she and Jack were standing at the window in the door waving goodbye, each one eating a cinnamon powdered doughnut.
She has lots of blonde hair...but it is still short....so sometimes she looks like she has a little boy haircut.
She hates to have her teeth brushed.
She LOVES baths and will cry if someone takes a bath or shower without her.
She likes every person she meets and will go to anyone happily if they are willing to hold her.
She likes books okay...but only for short durations...and prefers books that have flaps or touch/feel pages so that she can participate.
She is a sweet girl and smiles when she sees her Mommy. She adores her brother and her Daddy....and I am so thankful to have the precious sweet baby. Thank you, God for giving us Mary Katherine. Our lives would not be complete without her.
