Wow...this little girl is growing up so fast. Sometimes I sit in her room with her alone and I cry because her babyhood is going by so quickly. I feel like I am not appreciating it. There is so much happening...and there is a big brother that needs attention, that little sweet Katie...she just kind of moves along, growing up without any fanfare. It makes me cry.
She is such a sweet little baby with the cutest little smile. (Her little top teeth have a space between them and she has the cutest little grin when those teeth are showing. ) She smiles at everything, especially the animals. She loves live cats and dogs and will even laugh and giggle at stuffed animals. She really seems to be drawn to animals and dolls.
She is cruising everywhere! She will hang on to her little car cruiser and walk all of the way across the family room pushing it. Yesterday, she saw something on television as she was walking along pushing her car and she stopped, let go of the handle and just stood there without holding on to anything for well over a minute. It was amazing.
She loves to feed herself (with her hands and with a lot of it ending up on the floor or in her highchair) making a huge mess whenever she eats. She loves most everything that we have given her: veggie dogs, veggie chicken patties, pasta with alfredo sauce, yogurt, tomatoes, cut up grapes, watermelon, cantalope, pretzels, pizza, broccolli, carrotts, toast, pancakes, waffles, veggie bacon, veggie sausage, macaroni & cheese, cookies, green beans, corn, veggie burgers, grahm crackers, cauliflower, sunflower seeds, mashed potatoes, dumplings, peas, perogies, noodles...anything we eat she will eat and loves it! She doesn't drink a lot of breastmilk while I am at work (Paul can barely get her to drink 10 oz the whole time I am gone...and she doesn't nurse constantly like Jack did...but I trust that she is getting what she needs as she is growing well.
She is getting a lot more hair. It looks like it will be thick like Jack's but a lot lighter. Her eyes have gotten to be a beautiful deep chocolate brown and she has teh cutest little turned up nose.
She waves "hi" to people now...and claps her little hands together when you say "clap" or when she is pleased with something that she has done. She also has communicated her first signs. In response to us saying the words she has signed: "Num nums," "doggie," and "sleep." She hasn't really attempted to communicate with us using these signs yet (although I am pretty sure that she has told us she was tired yesterday by making the sign for sleep and asked for "num nums" as well...but I can't be 100% positive.)
She is a sweet little angel and I am so happy that God brought her into our lives. Katie Boo, I would die without your sweet self in this world! I am so happy that you are my sweet baby girl!

A Bit About Jack
I have been trying to update about Katie...and barely have time to do that with two little ones, a house renovation underway, and a full-time job...and so much is happening in our little boy's life...I have to devote at least one post to Just Jack.
Jack has grown over 2 1/2 inches in the last six months. He is now almost 46" tall and weighs about 44 lbs. He is so tall and skinny. He is all long legs and arms and a big head. (I love big heads...Mine is small so I always wanted a larger head!) he is so smart. And sometimes because he si so smart and beause he seems so grown up I treat him like a big boy instead of a 4 /2 year old and that is not fair! I find myself getting aggravated with him when he wants to be picked up, when he is hanging on me trying to get some attention, when he spills his milk, or can't put on his own shirt, when he doesn't listen right away or pick up after himslef.
But gosh....he is only four! I know that he is old enough to learn all of these things....but sometimes I expect so much from him and then I look at his little self and I crumble inside...because he is just my little boy...it was just a few years ago that he was my little Buddah Baby.
He tries so hard to make me proud of him. When Daddy and I argue (often times it is about cleaning...or why something didn't get done during the day) Jack will say, "don't worry Mommy, I will make sure to clean up when I grow up." *Sigh* Or if Paul says something about me that isn't very nice, Jack will chime in and say, "Don't say that about her....she is my Mommy!" My heart melts for that little boy and I can't imagine being closer to any other person in the world ever. He is my special baby and always will be. I love him so very very much.
He is readying like crazy now! He can read just about anything by sounding the words out. He can also write words by sounding them out. (Sometimes they aren't spelled just right but I am so proud of him). Last week he helped me by adding two items to my grocery store list: monstr yogrt and staps....not bad for a 4 1/2 year old. I am not sure what we are going to do about pre-school for him next year. He has another year before he can start Kindergarden and I am afraid, given his reading and math skills (he can add and count to 100, knows everyone's phone numbers, etc.) that he will not be challenged enough in his current Montesorri Class. I plan to call them to talk to them about this before school starts.
Jack has decided (after considering and really agonizing over all of the different crazy monsters and skeletons that he could be for Halloween this year) to be a flower just like his sister. I hope he diesn't hate me, but Isuggested that this was probably the last year that he could ever dress up in the same outfit to match Sissy (as he would be too big to order an extended toddler size next year) and so he quickly changed from wanting to be a skeleton to chosing (out of all of the Tom Arma costumes) flower costumes for the two of them. They actually will be really cute together....I love my children so much...and this little boy who made me a Mommy....i would just die without him!
I love you sweetheart!

Falling Off the Bed, Falling Down the Stairs, Sweet Baby.....
Little Katie is the fastest...most agile baby I have ever known. Jack was never like this. She will be nodding off, laying on our bed nursing...and the next second up and crawling to the edge of the bed. I barely have time to sit up and grab her leg to stop her from falling! She ahs fallen off the side of our bed THREE times and yesterday she pulled the gate at the top of our basement stairs open (I clearly didn't lock it shut properly) and rolled down the basement stairs. She could have died or suffered serious injury. I was just sick about it.....I still am. I hope that she isn't permanantly hurt. My sweet little girl.
Yesterday Katie clapped when I said "clap" for the first time. I was going through a list of signs that I have been saying and showing her....and whn I got to "clap" she immediately started clapping. She is a sweet little angel...I feel so terrible for letting her fall.

Eight Months Old
Katie.....where has the time gone? You turned 8 months old on Thursday. You now have eight teeth! You are crawling everywhere and you never want to stop moving. Now when we lay down to go to sleep there is a requisite period where you crawl all over the bed almost falling over the sides....just moving, moving, moving. You do this for about 15 minutes now before settling down to sleep.
You are pulling yourself up on things and LOVE to be standing. You also sometimes crawl by standing up on your feet with your little bottom in the air and your hands on the ground. (I think you may do this as your dresses make it difficult to crawl in the normal fashion. You still will have nothing to do with anything that is eve close to baby food. You eat everything that we do in small pieces. You like pizza, corn, broccolli, peas & carrots, Cherrios, perogies, tofu turkey...really anything that we are eating. (Though you are not a big fan of bananas...which seems strange to me.)
Also surprising to me is the fact that you do not enjoy us reading to you. You are so busy that when Mommy or Daddy try to read to you you are quickly distracted and on to something else. You smile and giggle all of the time...and love your brother more than anything. As long as he is around youa re laughing and happy. You wake up each morning at about 6:30am and that is our special time when everyone else is asleep. It is that time right now and youa re on the floor here in the office with me....babbling and exploring.
You are strating to get more hair. It is very thick...but because it is blonde...you still look like you don't have much. You are babbling a lot and you have entire conversations with words that we cannot understand. You do no0t like to be left alone...and actually cry if left to your own devices (and not in someone's lap our arms) for more than 5-10 minutes. You cry untilo you are picked up if you have been left to your own devices for too long (ie, 5 minutes.)
You love the cats and dogs and laugh and smile when you see them. Interestingly, you also laugh when you see stuffed animals. While Jack never showed any particular interest in stuffed animals (except for a short period where he carried around a Pooh Bear) you smile and giggle and talk to any stuffed animal that you see. You laugh when you see one on one of your Baby Einstein tapes....and making one "talk" to you is sure to bring a smile to your sweet little face.
You still have beautiful dark dark brown eyes with LONG eyelashes. People will stop us to say how beautiful that you are and they always seem to comment on your beautiful dark eyes. You really don't sleep alot....you prefer short cat-naps to the long luxurious naps that Jack used to take. You nurse all night long...preferring that to your bottles during the day while Mommy is at work.
You and Daddy and Jack came along with me on a busienss trip to Richmond, Virginia this week. You were such a good girl. You adjusted well and never missed a beat. You spent your days at the pool and the Children's Museaum and the Science Museum with Daddy and Jack...and slept soundly each night int he big fluffy white bed. You are very accepting of change and different environemnts and schedules unlike most babies.
You are so special to Mommy my sweet baby girl. Everyday I thank God for allowing us to have you. Mommy loves you so much....and I am blessed to be your Mommy my sweet girl.
Love,
Mommy
