Cinderella

Jack asked for a Cinderella doll that he had seen one day while we were grocery shopping. Daddy didn't want him to have one...as he thought "people will think he is a weirdo." After seeing the doll the next couple times we shopped and telling him "no" and then discovering on the next visit that it was gone....I was disappointed. It broke his little heart. Then, he moved the Snow White doll, and there was Cinderella...he was so happy....so I had to buy her.

Since then, Cinderella has become Jack's "friend." He talks to her, explains things to her, and wants me to "make Cinderella talk." I make her talk to him and he smiles and tells her about everything. He will not stop talking...he loves having her as a friend.

The other evening, he told Cinderella this:
"Cinderella, there was a Snow White at the store...but I didn't want her....I only wanted you" he said with a big smile on his face...beaming at this little princess doll. He is so sweet. He understands that I am speaking for her...but he talks directly to the doll...he takes her everywhere with him and talks about seeing her again at Disney World. It is so cute. I am so glad that he has had the opportunity to experience this sort of creative play. He is my sweetest little boy and I love hi with every bit of my heart.

John Paul....I love your sweet little boy head!

N/T Scan Results

The nurse called today and said that our N/T Scan results came back within normal ranges! She said based on my age alone, our chances of having a baby affected with Down's Syndrome were 1 in 45. But the N/T Scan and Bloodwork results decreased that risk to 1 in 810! She said that that was the ratio for a 27 year old! Whoo Hooo!

Nuchal Translucency Scan

So far so good. I was so worried that something had happened to this little peanut and that he/she had died....I was so afraid that they would find no heartbeat today. But there it was...first thing...beating away at 143 beats per minute.

They had trouble getting the nuchal fold measured. (this is a small section of lymph material that runs down the back of the baby's neck. The incidence of Down's Syndrome in a baby is much greater where the nuchal fold measures at a 2.5 or higher. This little baby kept standing on his/her head and curling up so it took a long time to get him/her in a good position to measure ...but it finally came out to be 1.8 which is excellent. We should have the total results (based on this scan and the bloodwork that they do) by Monday which will give us a view of the baby's possibly having Down's Syndrome or Trisomy 18. We are praying that the test comes out excellent...like it did for Jack.

The little baby was jumping around. They say he/she is about the size of a peach now. I am so relieved that he/she was okay. The technician tried to look for boy/girl parts...but said it was just too early...sometimes they can see something there....but in general, those parts aren't even formed at this point.

I don't go back for FIVE weeks!!!! That is soo long!!!! Until then, Jack will continue to insist that this is a brother!

I am getting really excited about this little one now. I guess I have been afraid to believe that it is true...but I think now I can...please take care of this little baby, God.

Baby Brother or Baby Sister?

Jack is certain that the baby will be a baby brother. He wants a brother so badly and talks into my belly button to say hello to his brother "Luke." Anyway, how could I not want another one just like the one I have...he is so perfect!

Last night I was not quite as sick as I have been for the last few weeks. Today I have been able to eat without getting sick...just a little queasy. Maybe the worst is over?

Oh, and one more sweet Jackism. Every morning when Jack wakes up he smiles at me and says, "Mommy, what day is it?" When I tell him Monday or Tuseday or Wednesday or Thursday or Friday he says..."Oh, you have to work?" and I say yes. And he says..."And you will be sad." And I say, "Yes, I will be so sad because I am not with you!" He knows that I get to stay home on Saturdays and Sundays...and when we get to Friday he says, "And the next day is Saturday and you get to stay home with me?!!!" I love him so much!

Second Ultrasound

We had our first OB/Perinatologist Appointment yesterday with Dr. Samuels. He seemed glad to see us and to meet Jack for the first time since he was born!

We took a lot of time getting our file up-to-date and then had the ultrasound. There was the tiny little baby with little arms and legs kicking and moving around. It was pretty amazing. And it was pretty scary too. I remember at exactly this point in my pregnancy with Jack, I felt nervous-sick like this. Nervous-sick that this was real and now what were we supposed to do.

Please don't get me wrong. I am thrilled beyond words that we are having a little baby....it is everything that I had ever hoped and dreamed of....but it just seems to become real at this point....and to be honest reality can be scary. It seems you spend so much time hoping and praying for something and then when God finally answers your prayers.....well, it can be a shock.

That said, I hope we are doing the right thing for Jack's sake. I hope that he will not be unhappy after the baby comes...or feel that we love him any less than we do now. (I cannot imagine loving anyone the way that I love my son....but who knows how we will feel once the baby comes.) So far he is so excited about his baby "brother"--oh dear.

Anyway, our little baby had a heartbeat of 173 (good for 9 weeks 3 days). Thank you God for this precious gift.

So Sick...Is That a Good Sign?

I have been sooo sick. If I don't eat I feel sick and if I eat, immediately afterward I feel even sicker. About a week ago, I couldn't drink anything and was throwing up every day. For the last four or five days I have just been sick all day and all night. I can barely function. Poor Jack he wonders why Mommy won't pay attention to him and just wants to be left alone. This is so hard. I know I wasn't sick this early with Jack.

My first appointment with Dr. Sammuels is tomorrow. I am praying that everything is okay. We haven't seen the baby for almost 3 weeks....and I can't help but worry that something isn't right.

Jack still swears that this is a BROTHER. (not a sister). He talks to my belly button and says "Hi, I'm Jack." It is soooo cute. I can't imagine loving anyone as much as I love my sweet angel boy.
