Oh my how time flys. It seems with two children....there is just no time to sit down and think, let alone update a journal. This makes me extraordinarily sad as I was pretty diligent in recording Jack's life and his development and I have not been nearly as diligent with little Katie's. And she is such a special little peanut and soo very different from her brother that I feel overwhelmed with guilt for not having kept up better.
We had a wonderful summer. Jack and Katie grew closer and closer. (Once when I gave Katie a little swat on the bottom she began to cry and then immediately went to Jack and "told on me" pointing back at me and telling her protector, Jack, that Mommy "bank" her.) As she becomes more and more of a little person, they grow to love each other more....and to squabble more as well.
Katie has really grown into a little person....and with that growth my love for her has flourished. I just look at her, or smell her, or feel her soft little warm arms around my neck and my heart turns to mush. She is tiny...and so full of spirit. She crosses her little arms and makes a pout with her mouth...and refuses to move when she doesn't want to do something. She can be so stubborn. But rather than infuriating me, her act makes me smile and I have to scoop her up in my arms and kiss her little tummy.
She has pretty fine golden blonde hair that is growing down her back. Finally she looks like a little girl! Her bangs fall into her eyes and if you try to brush them to the side and out of her eyes when she doesn't want you to, she will pout with her full little lips and pull that hair right back down into her eyes. And she will do it again and again until you stop trying to keep it out of her eyes. She is willing to do almost anything to win the battle.
She still loves to be picked up and carried everywhere...all of the time. (Thank goodness she is little...only weighing 22lbs.) She is extremely athletic...and was totally potty trained at 21 months (with just an accident here and there at night.) She is still nursing...and loves her "nummits". She is so very smart...and has finally discovered her love for being read to. She begs to be read to every mornign and every evening. And though we understand the improtance of this, we don't do it with her nearly enough...because life is just so hectic with two.
Katie is so aware of things around her. Unlike, Jack, who lived to be taught and begged people to help him learn, colors, numbers, letters, and about the world around him, Katie learns through imitation. She watches people (even when they are not aware) and she immitates them and theri actions. She often will act out what someone is doing as a form of communication. At times, she seems to know so much more than a 1 1/2 year odl should knwo. She looks at me like she understands things that she couldn't possibly understand. Unlike Jack, who still is unable to tell a fib...Katie will not admit to doing anything that she is embarrassed about. It is funny to see someone so little look at me and tell me something that I know is not true with such a striaght unwaivering little face. All that I can say is that she si so lucky that she is as cute as she is!
People everywhere comment on how darling and how pretty she is. She does look like a little doll. She is my little baby...and I love her more than anything!
