Toledobes Highlander v Dobayr
September 8, 1998- September 6, 2003
Dear Sweet Highlander....today should have been your 5th birthday. We should have been celebrating your life...instead we are mourning your death. I never would have believed that you would leave us so soon. So early. It is not fair. For us and certainly not fair for you sweet little dog. You should have gotten to see more sunrises, have had more "Sunday Morning Breakfasts" with us, gotten to bark at so many more people passing our house. You deserved so much more love than your Mommy ever gave you. I am so sorry sweet boy. I just figured that I would have so much more time to pay attention to you and to make it up to you. How wrong I was.
I will never forget the first time that I saw you. Oh my gosh, you were breathtaking. I had never seen a more beautiful Doberman puppy. You were just 5 months old, but tall, and muscular, sleek, and elegant. I was taken aback by your beauty. Both Daddy & I were. I remember that Daddy was so happy. He rode all of the way back from Toledo in the back seat with you. He was always so proud of you. He showed you in lots of dog shows and always felt you were the most beautiful dog alive. He loved you more than anything.
Mommy wasn't as nice to you...as she always felt that you were young and healthy and that other animals deserved our attention more than you. Gosh, I hate myself for treating you so poorly. I yelled at you all of the time...often taking out my stress and frustration on you, sweet little dog. I am so sorry. I would give anything to take back the way I treated you. I should have made your life nice....instead I made you a nervous wreck. Please know that deep inside, I loved you with all of my heart sweet Highlander.
Just about a week ago, I was walking you outside, and you stopped in our front yard and just looked back out at the park and then up and down the street. You seemed to be looking around trying to remember how things looked....a part of your life...savoring your world so you could take it with you. I think you knew that you were dying. You laid down in the front yard and just looked. What were you thinking beautiful boy? I may never know...but I hope with all of my heart that you know that I love you and miss you and would give anything to have your sweet heart back.
Please, God, take care of Highlander.
