When I get home from work each night, there he is with a giant grin on his face....he knows when Mommy is home. We cuddle and I nurse him...and soon after his little heart falls asleep. He is still sleeping in our bed and I wouldn't want it any other way. To wake up and feel him curled up in a little ball pressed against me breathing. To look down and see his soft little head of brown curls and feel his warm little feet on my leg is the best thing in the world. There is absolutely nothing more precious than a sleeping innocent baby. Sometimes I just stare at him in the dark, listening to him breathe and watching him make little sucking motions with his tiny little mouth and I feel tears well up as I can't imagine anything more beautiful.
He is sitting up easily on his own for long periods of time now...and spins around on his tummy to see what is happening in every part of the room he is in. He is also starting to push himself backwards (which I have heard is the first stage of crawling for some babies as their arms and legs aren't of equal strength at this point and they need to better develop all their muscles.)
He is a strong and wiggly little baby. It seems that he wants to be held all of the time and screams in a very high pitched voice if we do not pay attention to him for what he feels is too long. On the other hand, when he is being held, he is so squirmy and always twisting around and banging his little fists. He leans over almost like he wants to get down. I think the poor little thing is frustrated with not being able to move about freely on his own. Soon enough little guy you will be crawling...you, my sweet baby, are growing up so fast. Too fast for my liking sometimes. Where has our soft wrinkled little newborn baby gone?
I just want to savor every soft, sweet baby smell and sound. Every little giggle and coo. I want him to grow up, but I am terrified of him growing up at the same time. I will miss my little curl-on-the-forehead, chubby cheeked, giggly, powder scented, hand-moving little baby boy when he begins to crawl, talk and walk, and needs me less. So I stop to savor the moments that I have with this most precious gift, watch him gently sleeping, listen to his baby giggle when I tickle him and close my eyes and try to capture moments that are all too fleeting, to build memories that I want to hold onto so badly.
He will never be a tiny little infant again. Every day he gets bigger and smarter and a bit more independent. That makes me very proud, of course. But also a tiny bit sad. Will he realize that even grown up boys need their mommies sometimes? Whether he does or not, I will always be here for him, just in case. My sweet Baby Jack...you are Mommy's best baby boy.
