I cannot believe that our baby....our littlest one...has been alive and with us for over a year already. It just seems like she is still so new and still such a baby. Things have gone so quickly with her. When I think back to when Jack was a baby it seemed like his first year went on forever....and little Katie's has just flown by. I love her little heart so much....I want to capture these moments and hold them forever...and they continue to slip by just beyond my reach.
At her One Year Old Pediatrician Appointment, she weighed in at a tiny 19 lbs 12 oz. (25%) and was 30" tall (75%). Wherever we go, people see her motoring around and stop us to say how tiny she looks and how they can't believe that she is so little and walking like that. She is actually relatively tall for her age....but is so thin and baby-looking that she looks much smaller than she is. She wears 12 month old clothing...but I can still put her into 3 month old skirts (they fit her around the waist....just are short.) After having Jack (who was always "off the charts...and who weighed as much as Katie does now at 4 months) I am always surprised to have people stop me and comment on how petite and tiny Katie is.
Katie at one still does not talk much...if at all. Oh, she babbles...and she uses sign language but she prefers to cry when she wants anything. It is really hard because she screams and cries until she gets what she wants....and she is very very dogmatic about pursuit of what she wants. If she wants something she will keep working her way to it...or continue to cry (for 15 minutes or more) until she gets it. Shortly afterwards, she is fine...and the thing that she wanted so badly is tossed aside. She is my daughter. She knows how to say Dadda and Momma...but almost never uses Momma anymore....as she prefers to call everyone Dadda. She does say Jack (Gacg)...and Beddy for pretty.....but not much else. (She does know lots of baby signs: Zebra, hat, bath, hungry, drink, numnums, more, scared, balloon, fan, light, dog, cat, lamb, frog, bird, bear, bye-bye, down, eat, horse...and probably others that I am forgetting.)
She does love books now...and will bring them over to me to read to her....but she is much more interested in turning the pages or opening the flaps than in the actual story. It may be her age...or it may be that my daughter is just much more physical than cerebral. She loves to climb, turn, grab, and touch. She is always moving and has great physical ability and manual dexterity for her age. (She eats really well with a fork and spoon at one and refuses to eat anything unless we allow her to feed herself.) She has fallen down stairs, off beds, off her highchair, and off the couch...but she just keeps taking daredevil risks. She is all about movement, whether she is dancing (even the slightest bit of music will elicit a dance from Miss Katie) or climbing up the steps to get away from one of us...she is just a ball of constant movement.
Katie is also either a devil....hitting you in the face when she is angry and when she wants something and is not allowed to have it....or the sweetest angel....stopping whatever she is doing to come over to give you a kiss...or to lay her head in your lap and hug your legs. She is an amazing and totally complicated little one year old....and I am so proud to say she is mine. I love her as much as a Mother can love. She is my sweetest girl.
